1. They don't want to have to
keep changing their lifestyle when scientists discover new ways
we can prevent global warming
2. They think these new measures are expensive, and too difficult
to cope with in the current economic crisis
3. They tell themselves that it will not make a massive change to
the world's climate if one more person takes action
4. They do not believe that global warming is taking place,
despite the evidence presented to the public in the form of maps,
graphs and charts
5. They are unaware of how global warming will impact everyone's
lives
6. They think that the media has exaggerated the situation
7. Scientists keep changing their predictions of when the main
effects of global warming will take place, so people are unsure
of what to believe, and how serious the problem is
8. It is more efficient to use non-renewable resources as fuel
than renewable ones. But when the non-renewable resources run
out, we will be forced to use renewable ones.
9. Many people are extremely content with their current lifestyle
involving long-term use of electrical equipment. They do not want
to be told to change this.
10. They have greater priorities in life such as their job, their
children, and their morgage.

I don’t want to offend any people here. This is not how general people react to the new knowledge about global warming, and I am not suggesting that most people are sceptics. These are just some possible reasons why people don’t want to act – feel free to comment – do you have any others?
